Care hotel: Towards the patient-orientated design
In the future health care system will be decentralized. Hospital will no longer have so many wards as they have now, and it will become the place to cure disease. After patient receives medical treatment such as surgery, they will be sent to the care hotel to recover. Compared with the normal hospital, the design of care hotel is much more patient-orientated.
Patient-friendly environment
In care hotel patient should be always put in the first place and served as “king”. Privacy of patients will be definitely respected, and the room will be designed for just one patient. Luxury will be introduced and it is going to be realized by expanding the most useful functions in the room and making them more delicate. Each single room will also be equipped complete entertainment system for the patient to kill time alone or play with the visitors. The choice of room will not depend on the number of bed in the room, but on different themes which is created by different interior design, view, and adjacent outdoor space.
High-quality of personal medical care
Although care hotel is patient-orientated, the design of the space for medical staff is also very important because it has significant impact on the quality of medical care. The high quality of personal medical care will be established on the basis of the principles of the Evidence Based Design. For example, decentralized nurse station will help medical staff waste less time and energy on walking around the ward, and patients will get more attention from nurse if their rooms are closer to the nurse station. Private duty nurse will be sent to help the patient who needs more intensive care. In this case, the living space for the private duty nurse must also be taken into account.
Atmosphere is opposite to normal hospital
Since care hotel is designed to be the patient-friendly environment, the atmosphere must be opposite to the ordinary hospitals designed mainly from the viewpoints of medical staff. The atmosphere of care hotel should be very relaxed because for patients it is better to be recovered in an unstressful environment. The relaxed atmosphere will be generated by warm colors, warm materials such as wood, garden, and some natural elements such as light, green, and water.
Friendly appearance of building
The white look should be taken away because care hotel represents different concept of health care. Care hotel should have friendly appearance which corresponds to the characteristics of the adjacent buildings and community.
Interact with community
Care hotel shouldn’t be the isolated island in the neighborhood. It must be involved with community. Several activities such as the lecture about healthy life can be held in the small auditorium of the care hotel. The restaurant inside the care hotel can also promote healthy food to the people in the neighborhood.
